How Export of sugar from the EU tripled?

During the October-June 2017/18 season, European Union countries exported 2.7 million tons of sugar, compared with 0.92 million tons for the corresponding period last season.

This was due to the abolition of quotas for the production of sugar in the EU, said analyst of the sugar market S & P Global Platts (Kingsman) Daniel Rebel during the conference “Trade and Export of Sugar 2018”, reports AgroTimes.

Although after the abolition of quotas, the export of European sugar has grown significantly, the markets for its exports have not changed.

Most of the EU sugar is exported to the Mediterranean or to West Africa. The main buyer of European sugar is Egypt, the expert added.
